EAST REGION INTER COUNTY CHAMPIOSHIPS
3rd July 2011
Suffolk travelled to Peterborough on 3rd July for the East Region Inter County Trophy Gala. Despite having had three of my original 15/16 year old boys drop out due to illness and injury and one not turning up we came a very creditable 3rd only one point behind Essex. Hertfordshire won this year but we hope to return the trophy to Suffolk next year.
We had some excellent swims from Alexandra Harrison, Emily Dowding and Bryony Campbell who all gained first places and Suffolk produced a large number of 2nd and 3rd positions which helped us in the points table. I would like to thank both Danny Proffitt from West Suffolk and Adam Last from Deben who turned out to represent the County at the very last minute, both swam excellent races.
The next event is the National Team Championships in October at Ponds Forge which is the event all the swimmers look forward to. I will be selecting the team after the Nationals

EAST REGION INTERCOUNTY GALA

4th July 2010

The 2010 East Region Inter County Gala was hosted by Suffolk at Crown Pools on 4th July. Competing teams were Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. It was an exciting event with Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire fighting for top spot and throughout the competition it was so close no one knew who was likely to win. It came down to the last batch of relays before it became clear that Suffolk had won the trophy back from last year’s winners Hertfordshire.
At the start of the event Ellis Jackson and Lewis Coleman came into their own in the 200IM by both winning their races by a very clear margin.
Pascale Reeves swum an excellent 100 Freestyle in the Girls 15/16 yrs age group with a time of 58.31. Alice Tennant won the 17yrs and over 100m  Backstroke in 1.05.10 and came a very close 2nd in 100m Butterfly with a time of 1.03.93.
Killian Korth swam in two individual events the 13/14yrs 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke winning them both in fine style. Aaron Lynch also swam two individual events coming 1st in 15/16 yrs 100m Breaststroke and 2nd in 100m Freestyle. Rachel Andvig was Suffolk’s other individual winner in the 17 and over girls 100m Freestyle in a time of 58.89.
Suffolk also had a lot of 2nd place swimmers, Alaina Scifo,Philip Dowding Young, Bryony Campbell, Daniel Smith, David Harrison, Lucy Allington, Ellen Oxbrow, Ellis Jackson, Sam Munro, Nathan Henderson, and Troy Lynch.
As a County we also performed well in the relays winning seven and coming 2nd in three.
As President of the County and Team Manager I would like to congratulate the team on a sterling performance and wish all the swimmers who are competing at the National Championships in a few weeks time all the very best of luck.
I would also like to thank Kim and Peter Lynch who stood in for me as team managers, they had a difficult time with a no show and team changes to make.
The next date to put in your diaries is 16th/17th October at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
This is the venue for the National Team Championships and I shall be selecting the team after the Nationals had been run.

TEAM MANAGERS REPORT – THREE COUNTIES 2009

This is just a short note to thank all the swimmers who represented the County at Waterworld , Theford on Saturday. Once more Suffolk had a resounding victory over Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. Congratulations to everyone who took part. I am still waiting for the results sheets to come from Norfolk but as soon as I do they will be posted on the Suffolk website and also sent to all Clubs whose swimmers took part in the event.

NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

Suffolk travelled to Sheffield at the weekend for the annual National Team Championships and once more came away with a successful result. Having come 8th in Division One for the last two years we were determined not to be demoted back to Division Two.
We were unlucky this year to have a team of swimmers who were fighting off flu and chest infections plus one bumped nose which needed attention on Saturday night at Rotherham A&E. Despite all this Suffolk finished in a very creditable 9th position.
Aaron Lynch had a spectacular weekend claiming a 1st place in 14/15 100m Freestyle and 3rd in the 100m Breaststroke both swims in personal best times.
Joshua Coleby also had a good weekend coming 3rd in 12/13 boys 100m Freestyle and 9th in 100m backstroke. Alex Harrison despite still recovering from illness swam a very gutsy race to finish in 4th position with a good time of 1.13.58.
Another great swim came from Elliott Cook in the boys 14/15 100m Backstroke, he had to wait until the very end of the meet to swim and finished in 4th place with a personal best time of 1.00.59.
Bryony Campbell had two individual swims this year and coming a very creditable 4th in the girls 14/15 100m Butterfly and 10th in 100m Freestyle and Owen French  who was swimming in his first National Team Championships dropped his previous best time by two seconds in 12/13 100m Breaststroke.
Finally Suffolk’s boys captain Lewis Coleman swam a very exciting race in 16/17 boys 100m Breaststroke to finish 2nd in an excellent time of 1.03.09.
Suffolk also had some good relay swims coming 4th in the girl’s 14/15 Medley team race and 5th in the boys 14/15 Medley team race. We finished the event with an excellent 10th position in the very fast and exciting 6x50m mixed freestyle relay team race.
I would like to congratulate all the swimmers who represented the County at this meet. A big thank you to the swimmers who travelled up just to swim in a relay and also those swimmers who really were probably not well enough to swim but still turned out for the County, this shows real loyalty and courage.
Finally thank you to Jill (County President) and Andy Walker and Peter and Kim Lynch who were kind enough to help out as managers and officials.

East Region Inter County Gala
5th July 2009

Suffolk competed at the East Region Inter County Gala on Sunday 5th July and despite a valiant effort was beaten into second place by Hertfordshire by a mere seven points. The team was missing a few of our top swimmers due to illness and other swimming commitments (Lewis Coleman and Ellis Jackson who are representing England in Prague this week).
The team as always swam to their very best ability and Suffolk had some excellent performances. Alice Tennant got proceedings under way in Event 1 the Womens Open 200m IM with a fantastic win 5 seconds ahead of the next swimmer. She also won convincingly in the 100m Freestyle in 58.63. Sophie Chamberlain swam a brilliant race in the 15/16 100 m Butterfly in an excellent winning time of 64.73 and Charlotte Taylor won the 15/16 100m Backstroke in fine style. Other winners were Fenella Foskett in the 17years and over 100m Breaststroke four seconds ahead of the next swimmer, Elliott Cook who swam an amazing 100m Backstroke in a brilliant time of 62.09 and Alex Harrison in 15/16 100m Breaststroke.
Suffolk was also formidable force in the relay races winning seven in all and coming second in three.

Three Counties Gala

14th Dec 2008
On the 14th December 2008 I took a team of 61 swimmers to the Three Counties Gala at Peterborough. This team included 24 new caps with two new swimmers as young as 9 years old. Suffolk has held the trophy for a number of years now and the team were determined to bring it back to Suffolk once more. It is always an exciting event with many swimmers competing for the County for the first time. Suffolk had some excellent wins including some brilliant relay races. There are too many wins to mention all the swimmers but congratulations to you all. I hope to be able to select many of you again in the years to come. The results are on the website if anyone wishes to look at them and the results are as follows.
The final points were as follows.

SUFFOLK COUNTY ASA - SWIMMING REPORT

Suffolk County A.S.A travelled to Sheffield at the weekend for the Annual National Team Championships. This is the most prestigious events in the swimming calendar for County teams throughout the Country and once again Suffolk performed brilliantly. Suffolk managed to maintain the 8th position in Division 1 they achieved last year.
A good number of the team were at the younger end of the two year age group but were still highly placed. Rebecca Reader got the ball rolling in the first event, the Girls 16/17 100 metres Freestyle finishing in 3rd place with a new personal best time of 58.09 and then went on a few events later to claim 5th place in the 100 metres Backstroke. Fourteen year old Ellis Jackson also swam two individual events, the 14/15 100 Butterfly and 100 metres Backstroke. Not only did she get two 3rd places but her Butterfly time was a massive personal best time of 1.03.30.
Next up on the starting block was Pascale Reeves in the 12/13 100 metres Freestyle, she swam a lifetime best time of 59.49 breaking the magic minute by half a second finishing in 5th place. Both Alex Harrison in the 14/15 Girls 100 metres Breaststroke and Amy Swallow in 16/17 100 metres Breaststroke swam back into form. Alex swam a brilliant 1.12.29 finishing in 2nd place and Amy a 3rd place in the older age group.
Other notable individual swims came from Aaron Lynch, Troy Lynch, Rose Cross, Nathan Henderson, Lewis Coleman and Joshua Coleby, all of whom swam new personal best times.
Suffolk finished the gala with two amazing relay swims, the Girls 16/17 Medley Relay and the Girls 14/15 Medley Relay. The older girls despite losing a swimmer the last moment due to injury finished in a very creditable 5th position, one of our highest for sometime. The younger girls finished 3rd in a very close race only 0.03 of a second behind Durham.
Despite being one of the smaller Counties in the country Suffolk finished the event in a creditable 8th place with 337 points.
On a personal note I would like to congratulate all the swimmers who took part, not only for their great performance at the pool but for the way they represented themselves, their clubs and the County at the hotel. Some other hotel guests commented on how quiet and well behaved they were. Thank you everyone.

Suffolk Team Finish 8th at the National Team Championships
A report from the team manager

The National Team Championships is the most prestigious event in the year with 38 counties competing in two Divisions. Suffolk were promoted to Division 1 two years ago and last year Suffolk finished in a very creditable 14th place. This year the team upped the game to finish in a fantastic 8th position.

Everyone swam brilliantly, each swimmer gaining valuable points for the County. There were however some outstanding performances. Alex Harrison not only won her event the 12/13 100m Breaststroke but she gained a new County record time of 1.12.02. Aaron Lynch followed Alex in the boys 12/13 Breaststroke and he too produced a new personal best of 1.10.89 coming 2nd in that event. Aaron went on to win the 100m Freestyle in another best time of 55.37.

Sophie Chamberlain also produced two very creditable swims in the 14/15 100m Butterfly and Breaststroke also in personal best times. Lewis Coleman was the next one up finishing 3rd in the 14/15 boys 100m Breaststroke and 4th in 100m Freestyle again producing new best swims.

The experienced Mark Stevens, 17, who has swum for Suffolk in this event every year since he was 12 years old swam a very gutsy 100m Butterfly finishing in 9th place. Ellis Jackson was the next swimmer on the block. She finished 2nd in 12/13 100m Butterfly in a new best time of 1.05.58 and then swam a brilliant backstroke race annihilating the opposition in another record breaking time of 1.0400.

Rebecca Reader who had to swim twice in a very short space of time finished 10th in the 100m Freestyle and 12th in the 100m backstroke. Jack Hollis, Rebecca’s team mate had to wait until nearly the end of the gala before his race but swam the 12/13 100m Butterfly in a new personal best time of 1.06.77 to finish in 10th position.

We now come to the relay events which always prove to be an exciting and nail biting time. Jasmin Cross and Zoe Smith travelled up to Sheffield just to swim in the relay and wow was it exciting. They joined Alex Harrison and Ellis Jackson in the 12/13 200m Medley team event and the girls gave Suffolk their 1st ever relay win at this event, fanatastic!!!. Two other boys also just came to swim relays, George Bartle who swam an amazing Freestyle leg in the boys 12/13 medley relay to gain them 7th position and Jason Rodd who swam in the boys 14/15 relay.

The climax to the gala was the mixed 300m freestyle team race with a boy and girl from each age group. Our swimmers were Ellis Jackson, Aaron Lynch, Rebecca Reader, Lewis Coleman, Alex Seal and Troy Lynch. It was exciting from start to finish with Suffolk really pushing hard. We finally finished in 10th position but it was a really close fought race and a perfect end to our day.
I should like to thank the team as a whole, not only for their superb performances but for their excellent behaviour and team camaraderie. They are a credit to the County and their clubs.
